Directing its focus onto prosthetics, this  conceptual project provided a tool kit to explore the relationship between empathy and the design of an artificial hand. This allowed for the exploration of how non-utilitarian elements such as empathy can be communicated through a non-human artefact. The project was applauded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and awarded a First.

The embarrassed hand was 3D printed with thermochromic filament and a heater was placed within the palm along with a proximity sensor. When the hand detected an observer it triggered the heater which changed the colour of the palm from white to red, created a fist and turned away from the observer.
